How can physiotherapy help my animal?

The principles of physiotherapy can be applied to any animal from gerbils to farm or zoo animals with the ultimate aim of improving function and quality of life. The Animal Physiotherapist is open to all species and welcomes enquiries on an individual basis. If you would like to discuss your animal and how physiotherapy might be of help, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Some general indications for physiotherapy intervention are;

  • Pain
  • Lameness
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Soft tissue injuries including tendon, ligament, and muscle injuries
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation for orthopaedic or neurological conditions
  • Conservative (non-surgical) management of orthopaedic or neurological conditions
  • Reduced mobility in older animals
  • Wound healing
  • Lack of fitness and obesity

If your animal is showing any of these signs, physiotherapy may be of benefit;

  • Unwillingness to move
  • Stiffness when moving
  • Changes in their normal way of moving around
  • Difficulty getting up from lying down or sitting
  • Hunched posture
  • Refusal to play or lack of interest in favourite toys
  • Loss of balance
  • Lack of co-ordination
  • Change in behaviour including reluctance to be handled and aggression
  • Not acting like his/her normal self

Appointments usually take place in the animal’s home environment following vet referral, in their home environment with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines. Please see the ‘Terms and Conditions’ section for further details.

Please see the Pricing page for current appointment fees which are payable at the time of the appointment. Further details can be found on the ‘What happens during an appointment’ and ‘Treatment’ pages of the website.
