Gillian Leung – The Animal Physiotherapist
BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, PgDip Veterinary Physiotherapy, MCSP, HCPC registered, RAMP member, Category A member of ACPAT.
After graduating from Glasgow Caledonian University with an honours degree in Physiotherapy, Gillian worked for many years in the NHS as a Chartered Physiotherapist. In particular, Gillian enjoyed an interdisciplinary role with the Rehabilitation Services in the community environment.
In 2018, Gillian decided to follow a long-held desire to work with animals and secured a place on the veterinary physiotherapy master’s degree course at Liverpool University. Gillian gained the postgraduate diploma in 2021 and is currently working towards her Master’s award. During her studies, Gillian has developed her knowledge and understanding of physiotherapy application to all animals and has treated horses, dogs, cats and even a goat and roe deer.
Animals have always played an important role in Gillian’s life with her dogs being important members of the family. Dog related adventures have included competing at Championship level in agility, ‘Therapet’ visits to care homes and as support to university students during exams (‘Paws Against Stress’), participating in the Kennel club’s good citizen award scheme and being a puppy boarder for ‘Guide Dogs’. Gillian has relished the opportunity to spend more time with horses, building on time spent previously volunteering with ‘Riding for the Disabled’. Gillian is taking riding lessons to increase her knowledge of the horse-rider dynamic and how horses move under saddle.
